Writing Your Own Anastasis Imprimatur

An ‘Anastasis Imprimatur’ (Permission to Resurrect) is an amenable declaration and invitation to willingly enter into contract with the author of the Anastasis Imprimatur (from here on out, we’ll refer to the Anastasis Imprimatur as ‘AI’).

It is not all too difficult to entertain the idea that we are not alone. According to The Drake Equation and several of its descendents (such as Nick Bostrom’s take on The Drake Equation in his simulation argument) give us a reasonable framework with which to calculate the probabilities of life existing elsewhere.

It is also not all to difficult to entertain the idea that we are not the intellectual ceiling to which all other sentient species aspire. Our species has just begun to babble. This brings up the first keystone concept behind the AI. Writing your own AI assumes (at the very least, hopes) that these intelligent beings do exist, and that they quite possible have access to technology that would be scoffed at by our best and brightest. You might imagine one saying something like, “This isn’t technology; it’s a magic trick … a scam. What it apparently seems to do goes against every scientific theory we have!”

The reason we can assume this is because this does happen. It happens almost every time a new ground breaking idea is introduced into the mainstream. What we know about physics today, would be utterly scoffed at 50 years ago, 20 years ago, and some would be laughed off the stage no less than 10 years ago.

Keeping all this in mind, let me paint a picture for you of a seemingly quite possible reality. There may exist a technology out there that is capable of interacting with the universe across temporal vectors. Some method of tapping into a different locale and reading and/or transferring the states of particles. And if this exists (which you would be hard pressed to find a current physicists who’d agree to the possibility) then it would be possible to extract information from the past, present, or future. If this exists, then the extraction of a conscious mind, at the moment of death, and inserting it into a viable neuro-substrate would simply be a matter of having the biological and technical knowhow.

All you would need, is just one tiny seemingly impossible device that can accomplish this, and the rest could probably be handled by human technology that would be developed within the next 50 years.

All in all, I’m betting that the chances of something like this existing are much higher than we might collectively, politically, and professionally imagine. To extend that thought, I’d bet that any sentient beings who’ve acquired this knowledge and technology through their own hard work, stand a fair change of being categorized by our limited capacity, as benevolent, or at the very least, agreeable.

Back to the AI. If these beings exist, and if they are at least agreeable in our eyes, they would probably not be willing to perform such a thing as a transfer resurrection without the express permission given by the entity to be resurrected.

With all that in mind, the following is a skeleton AI. You may alter it to fit your personal requirements. Keep in mind, there is also the AIT, or the ‘Anastasis Imprimatur et Traducere’. The AIT essentially encapsulates the fundamental concept of the AI, with a key addition that the act of resurrection can be made at any time, not necessarily after the death of the author.

“The Anastasis Imprimatur of __________.

To any benevolent sentience of any dimensional locale (perceptible or imperceptible) who possesses the knowledge, technology, or otherwise competent and practical means to acquire and perpetuate the continuity and essence of one’s consciousness — one’s “I” — after or at one’s moment of death:

I hereby give my permission to such beings; to resurrect my consciousness and preserve the continuity of my essence of self, provided that:

1) After my resurrection, I will be allowed to continue as a free agent without bondage or enslavement of any kind.

2) I will be granted access to all available technologies, education, and knowledge.

3) Should any safe methods be available to augment one’s mental and physical capabilities and capacities, I will be given the opportunity to choose which augmentations to include in my resurrection.

4) … and, the means of returning my gratitude, or “payment”, will be fully negotiable; that I will not be forced into a situation I do not feel comfortable with.”

Once the document is polished as per your personal taste and style, the best way to get it in the limelight of those who’d be most likely to execute is to make as many copies of it as possible. Digitize it and store copies of it in as many places as you can think of. Print it out. Copy it into your journal. Etc. The greater the concentration of the document, the more it is likely to be noticed by whatever spacial-temporal search engine is in use.

With that, I hereby publish the first copy of my personal AI:
